You can make sure that the time and place words in a sentence are in the correct order.
There are so many similarities between english and german, but this is one situation where translating directly from german produces a sentence that sounds wrong to an english speaker. The rules for sentence construction in english are different from german rules.
In english the time expression either goes after the place or location or at the beginning of the sentence. In this case, the time word – “yesterday” – should go after the place word – “the office”. Yesterday they came to the office, or they came to the office yesterday.
